Our New APPOINTMENT System

We’ve listened, studied and planned and now we’re going to change. We want you to be able to get the Right Care, with the Right Person at the Right Time. These are the headline changes, but please read to the end for a fuller explanation as to why each change is being made.

 
  1. Queuing outside at 8am DOES NOT (and technically never did) guarantee you an appointment that day. Coming to the surgery in person has no advantage over phoning when seeking an appointment.
  2. Tell the receptionist what you need or what your problem is - they are bound by confidentiality just like the doctors and nurses and will use that information to get you the Right Care with the Right Person at the Right Time. (If this worries you, please read the explanatory section linked below).
  3. Doctors and Nurses will no longer issue repeat prescriptions during normal appointments
  4. If you think your problem needs same day attention, then you have to call us as early as possible and explain to the receptionist why
  5. The easiest way to get a routine appointment will be by booking online (ask reception if you need setting up on Patient Access)
  6. Administrative work or paperwork related problems are very rarely a same day emergency. Please be organised and plan ahead for these. Your lack of planning should not take priority over a clinical problem.
  7. You’ll be surprised what we can do over the phone - give it a try. If we can’t solve your problem, we can always arrange for you to come in
  8. If you have booked an appointment and you then no longer need it or your plans change, please cancel the appointment.
  9. Finally, if you have an appointment, please remember to arrive in good time (patients arriving late is the main reason that our surgeries run late) and remember that the appointment is 10minutes long, which gives us enough time to address one problem properly. If you have more than one problem, or you need a language interpreter, please book a double appointment.

We are now running the Family and Friends Test. When you have an appointment and we have your mobile number you will receive a text with the family and friends test for you to answer with a free text option for a comment. You will only receive one text within a month, so if we don't have your mobile number or you wish to do a FFT for the last contact you had we us please pickup a FFT questionnaire at the reception desk or in the doctors/nurses room after your appointment.
You can download the FFT Questionnaire by clicking HERE which you can hand in, post, fax, or scan and email to LEWCCG.G85038-GENERAL@NHS.NET.
All answers and second free text question are anonymous.

We have set up a Patient Participation Group to share ideas about how the surgery runs and develop more efficient and effective ways of meeting your needs. Please go the the PPG Group tab for more info and results of our annual survey.
The PPG will Meet here on the 1st Saturday of each month at 10:15 - 11:15 everyone is welcome to attend.

PAERS
 

We now have an 'Automated Arrivals Self Check In' system which allows you to check yourself in instead of waiting for a receptionist to be free.  If you are not sure how to use this system or get stuck please ask a receptionist.

Choose & Book

At St Johns Medical Centre we use the Choose and Book System. So when you and your GP agree that you need an appointment, you can choose which hospital or clinic to go to. You will also be able to choose the date and time of your appointment.


 Our practice is offering you the opportunity to use the internet to securely view your test results, consultation notes and your medical history, including current and past medications. Whether you want to improve your knowledge of your medication, or check your record for accuracy it’s at your fingertips, when you need it. You can even access it from anywhere in the world if you need medical treatment on holiday! Registration needs to be done in person, so just bring your photo ID and two proofs of address with you and ask at reception for details.

Text Messages

 We are now using the new Mjog Appointment Reminder service to send you a text reminder 24 hours before your appointment here at St johns.  If you feel that you don't want to have this option when you make an appointment with us please ask the receptionist to have yourself removed from this new service.  UPDATE:  You can now text back the word 'CANCEL' to the text back number to cancel your appointment.
